Catching up

Well it's June and I realized that I haven't posted in this blog in 5 months.  If you look at my previous blog one of the things I was going to do was write more blog posts.  Clearly that hasn't happened.  And there are a few other things that I said I wanted to do for the year that haven't happened yet.  That doesn't mean things cannot change now.  So with that in mind, let me catch you up on what's been going on.

In general I've been busy with work and the different organizations I volunteer with but here are some of the highlights.

January - Attended my first performance at the new Performing Arts Center here in Kansas City.  I got to see Broadway ledges Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin.  Went to New York for work.  While there I got to see the World Trade Center memorial which was absolutely emotional and aw inspiring.  I also got to see the Broadway shows Memphis, Anything Goes, and Rent (for about the 7th time in my life).  They all were great.

February - Biggest highlight was finding out that I passed my exam and am now a Certified Association Executive (CAE).  This was such a big relief that everything that I did in the fall to prepare for the exam resulted in this.  The 8 week waiting time was a killer.  I also had a long weekend getaway to San Francisco and Napa.  Even thought I was battling a sinus infection I still had a great time.

March - saw a lot of working with different volunteer groups.  I hosted an education session for the Young Professional group of KCSAE.  Co-presented a session on bridging generations at the ASAE Great Ideas Conference.  Judged an event for Missouri PBL.  I also got a chance to go home for my grandmother's "surprise" birthday party.  It was such a great time even though she showed up 45 minutes early.

April - I attended the ASAE Future Leaders Conference and learned a lot of great things.  Even though I've been through many leadership trainings (some I've even given) over the years, this one reminded me that there is always something to learn.  I also helped out with the Missouri FBLA state leadership conference.  I worked with a colleague on getting the revisions of a book finished and to the editors for review.  That was a very big project and am excited to see the final product soon.  I'll officially be a published author which I never thought would happen.

May - I tried to cut back but don't think that is what always happens :).  I did get to do the Tour de Brew bike ride in Kansas City.  15 miles isn't so bad but continuing going up hills for the last half was not so easy.  I did finish and had a great time.  I also got to see the Titanic exhibit at Union Station.

As I look forward to my summer, there will be many adventures to share along that road and I "hope" to update this blog more regularly with them.  We'll see how that goes.  Until next time, take care everyone.
